National Volunteer Week Thank You

Aroha is a word you often hear around the office hallways and rooms at Arohanui Hospice. It has a strong influence on hospice’s outcomes – love for patients, for families, for community at region. This warmth, affection and connection extends throughout our wider community, as shown through the generous time that our volunteers give – connecting hearts.

Accessibility is crucial for people to be able to receive hospice services when they need it. Our services are provided at no cost, to anyone in our region, anywhere they call home. How is this possible? About half of Hospice services are government funded, which is why we rely on other means. In addition to the generous donations and grants, thanks to our volunteers we can keep our operational costs as low as possible.

Volunteers play an essential role at Arohanui Hospice. From working in our Hospice shops, to supporting the kitchen and housekeeping in the inpatient unit, to maintaining our gardens, to going all out for our fundraising events, we couldn’t do what we do with them.

Te Wiki Tuao a-Motu, National Volunteer Week runs from June 20-June 26.  We’re extremely grateful for the incredible support of our 700+ volunteers: together, they’ve given nearly 55,000 hours of time this past year. This generosity with their time and service returns care and aroha to so many people in our community at a time when they need it most.

If you would like to volunteer with us, please find out more here or contact Volunteer Coordinator, Jill Rolls on 06 356 6606 ext 6408, or by email jillr@arohanuihospice.org.nz We would be happy to discuss the opportunities and schedules available.
